Improvement plans

Long term corridor planning is essential to the preservation and continued vitality of this unique gateway to Grand Junction, Colorado.  One of the goals for the Board in 2011 was to focus time and resources to begin work on a Corridor Plan.  The Corridor Plan, when complete, will encompass elements of physical improvements to traffic, safety and transportation, access and eventually include a zoning overlay and design guide.

In the first half of 2011, the Board hosted workshops and public open houses for input, while working with City Engineering to create a proposed street design.  In August, 2011, The Board approached City Council with a proposed street design and suggestions for funding the street improvements through partnership.  Following City Council's support of the design, the Board made public the proposed designs in October, 2011.  The design is available for viewing and download from this website.

The momentum on this project is increasing.  In October, 2011, the Board solicited the public for proposals from design & landscape specialists, who will work with the District, District property owners and the City, create a design for the complete street.  The Board was pleased to receive 12 proposals from companies throughout Colorado.  On December 1, 2011, the Board interviewed four short listed firms.  The Board ultimately selected the Grand Junction, Colorado, firm of Ciavonne Roberts & Associates, who is partnering with Winston Associates of Boulder, Colorado, as the design firm for the project.  It is anticipated that design charettes and public open houses will follow in first quarter, 2012.  The District is excited to see the street design project move forward!

Your feedback and participation is a valuable component to the continued vitality of the District.  Please plan to attend the public open houses, or make contact with our District representative, to participate in workshops, subcommittees and review sessions. Find contact information here.
