Gateway to Grand Junction® The 2008 completion of the I-70 Gateway to Grand Junction® project at Horizon Drive has been the largest undertaking of the Horizon Drive District since its inception. A cooperative effort with the City of Grand Junction, the Horizon Drive District funded $285,000 of the $1.3 million project. Pedestrian safety and beautification were the primary goals of the 2-year renovation.
The Gateway improvements include pedestrian crossings and lighting, retaining walls, landscaping, signage, underpass façade overlays and the installation of the city's largest art feature, a wild horse tile mosaic.
Multi-year District Improvement Plans Beginning In 2010 and continuing through 2011, the Horizon Drive District engaged in focused discussions with leading community individuals and organizations to formulate plans for the District's future. Taking the input from 2010 guided the work in 2011 to center on creating improvements to the physical streetscape of the Horizon Drive corridor. The District formulated a conceptual street improvement plan, and as of December 1, 2011, hired a design firm that will begin complete street design in 2012. Stay in touch with the District to learn how and when you can contribute to the discussion and help shape the designs!
